There are so many things that you can do to prevent yourself and others from texting while driving. Even doing one of the things listed below could help save a life.
- Drive Cam: A drive cam monitors a driver's activity and provides real time feedback with video ("DWI"). This tool makes a driver rthink about what he/she is doing behind the wheel and allows others to watch. If others are able to see the way a person drives when they're alone, the driver may have incentive to be a better driver.
- AT&T DriveMode: AT&T's DriveMode app enables you to let anyone who may text you while you are behind the wheel that you are driving and you will text them back as soon as possible ("Take Action"). All you have to do is enable the app before you start driving; once you are going at least 25mph, any text that you recieve will be replied to with a customizable message letting the person know that you are driving.
- Text-Free-Driving Pledge: Teens, parents, and anyone who wants to drive safely can take the text-free-driving pledge at textinganddrivingsafety.com ("DWI"). By taking this pledge, you are promising yourself, and your loved ones, that you won't text while behind the wheel of a car and you are recognizing that no text is more important than the safety of yourself and those around you.
- Have a Talk With Your Teen: Anyone who has a new driver in the family should make sure to have a talk with them about the dangers of texting while driving. Make sure that they know the risk that they are taking not only for themselves, but for everyone around them.
- Turn your phone off While Driving: If you turn your phone off whenever you get into your car, the temptation to use it will be gone. You can't use your phone if it's turned off
- Lead by Example: How can you expect you teen, friend, or loved one to put their phone down while driving if you don't do it yourself? Make sure that you are being safe wile you drive, your teen will see that and be safe as well.
- It Can Wait Simulator: "To help address the issue and show first-hand the risks of texting while driving, AT&T developed a state-of-the-art virtual reality simulator to demonstrate the dangers of texting while driving in more than 400 events nationwide" ("Take Action").
